The Government of Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada are committed to providing websites that respect the privacy of visitors in accordance with the requirements established in the Privacy Act. This privacy notice summarizes the privacy practices for ISED’s Intellectual Property (IP) Databank.
The IP Databank is hosted by a third party cloud service provider under contract with ISED. The information you provide is collected under the authority of the Financial Administration Act and the Industry Canada Act. It is required for the purpose of creating a user account and downloading intellectual property (IP) datasets. It may be used for statistical analysis, audit and evaluation, research, planning, reporting, and network security purposes. The information may also be used to compile anonymous website analytical and statistical information and to deliver optional Internet website cookies. If suspected cyber-criminal activities are detected, such as deliberate attempts to damage or breach the service, information may also be shared with law enforcement authorities.
ISED does not use the information to create individual profiles nor does it disclose the information to anyone other than for the purposes stated in this notice. The information collected is described in Personal Information Banks PSU 914 Public Communications and PSU 939 Security Incidents and Privacy Breaches.
If you choose not to submit your information for the purposes of user account creation and login, you will not be able to access the IP datasets for download. However, you may still view the IP data through Canadian Intellectual Property Office’s (CIPO) online IP Databases.
Information collected by our service provider
The following information will be collected by our third party service provider for account creation: individual or organization name, type of user, email address, and password (mandatory); country (optional).
Our third party service provider also employs software to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage. This software receives and records the IP address of the computer that has contacted the website, the date and time of the visit and the pages visited. The third party provider makes no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting the site unless an attempt to damage the site has been detected.
The third party provider uses sessional and/or persistent digital markers on some portions of the website. During your online visit, your browser exchanges data with the third party web server. The digital markers used do not allow ISED or the third party provider to identify individuals. You may not refuse the installation of or delete the digital markers used by the third party web analytics tools from your device through the settings of your web browser.
